Lue: Rose can take his time, Cavs expect him back
Derrick Rose is apparently unsure if he wants to continue playing basketball, but the Cleveland Cavaliers expect him to eventually return.
Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue addressed widespread reports of Rose's disillusionment with basketball, and publicly issued support for the player on behalf of the entire organization.
"We don't have a time frame (for Rose's return)," Lue told reporters before Friday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. "He can take his time. It's a personal matter. Just know that the team, the coaches, the organization, we all have his back and wish him well."
Wearied by his infamous struggles with persistent injuries, Rose asked for - and was granted - a leave from the Cavaliers to sort out his feelings. Having recovered from numerous knee surgeries, the guard is now battling a jammed ankle that's limited him to just seven appearances this season.
It's unclear if Rose will return to basketball, but Lue voiced confidence that the former MVP will return. The Cavaliers have found their stride in Rose's absence, but the 29-year-old could still presumably contribute in the right role.
"We expect to have him back," Lue added.
