Undermanned Warriors obliterate Bulls in 49-point blowout

The Golden State Warriors didn't need Kevin Durant or Draymond Green in the lineup Friday to eviscerate the lowly Chicago Bulls at Oracle Arena.

With Durant nursing a left ankle sprain and Green having the night off for rest, Golden State still managed to drop 143 points on Chicago in a 143-94 victory - its third win in the last four games.

The 49-point margin is the largest in the NBA this season, topping the previous mark of 48 set by the Portland Trail Blazers on opening night, when they dismantled the Phoenix Suns 124-76. It also marks the third-worst loss in franchise history for Chicago.

It had been 27 years since the Bulls were that abysmal on the defensive end. The 1990-91 team gave up 145 to the Denver Nuggets on Nov. 24, 1990.

Leading the way for the Warriors Friday was Stephen Curry, who scored 26 of his 33 points in the second quarter alone, adding seven boards, four assists, and a pair of steals in just 26 minutes. It was the sixth time in his career that he's scored 25 or more in a single quarter.

Golden State converted 58.2 percent of its shots, while drilling 16-of-36 from 3-point range. They also held Chicago to just 35.4 percent shooting - the sixth time they've kept an opponent to a field-goal percentage under 40 percent.

Owning a record of 14-5, and half a game back of the Houston Rockets for the top spot in the Western Conference, the defending champions will be back at it Saturday when they host the New Orleans Pelicans.
