Davis fined $25K for verbally abusing ref, delaying exit
Anthony Davis' recent outburst continues to cost him.
The New Orleans Pelicans power forward has been fined $25,000 for verbally abusing an official and not exiting the court in a timely manner following his ejection Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the NBA announced Friday.
The sixth-year big man got tossed for the first time in his career for jawing at the ref after he ruled Davis' block on Karl-Anthony Towns as a foul.
He earned his second technical foul and automatic ejection with 4:11 remaining in the second quarter, with his Pels only trailing by three points.
Davis finished with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with five boards, but his team didn't stand a chance without him, falling 120-102.
Officiating crew chief Ken Mauer explained afterward that Davis was ejected for "running and pointing and yelling and screaming and cursing at the referee." DeMarcus Cousins described the call as a "joke."
