Kerr tells Warriors to seize the day after 'insane' 46 assists vs. Magic
After recent sloppy showings against the Lakers and Kings, the Warriors found their groove again on Friday night, and coach Steve Kerr was especially pleased with the 21-point win over the Orlando Magic.
Channeling the famous "Dead Poet's Society" scene, Kerr exhorted his team to seize the day.
"I think guys were embarrassed by the last two games," Kerr said after the game, per The Athletic's Anthony Slater. "These guys love to play. I've probably been talking too much about the grind of the season, all that, instead of just reminding them: Go out and play. Enjoy it. There are no guarantees about tomorrow. On many levels. So just go out and play and enjoy tonight."
The Warriors were certainly enjoying sharing the rock Friday. Led by 10-dime outings from both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, the Warriors tallied a season-high 46 assists - within spitting distance of the NBA record of 53 assists in one game, set by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1978.
"Forty-six assists is insane," said Kerr. "We lead the league in assist-to-turnover ratio, and we're eighth in turnovers. That's probably never happened before in the history of the league."
Here's the breakdown of where the Warriors' assists came from Friday night:
PLAYER | ASSISTS |
---|---|
Stephen Curry | 10 |
Draymond Green | 10 |
Kevin Durant | 7 |
Klay Thompson | 5 |
Zaza Pachulia | 4 |
David West | 4 |
Patrick McCaw | 4 |
Shaun Livingston | 1 |
Omri Casspi | 1 |
With their latest performance, the Warriors creep closer to the all-time season assists record. Curry and Co. currently lead the league with 30.8 assists per night, just behind the record of 31.4 per game set by Magic Johnson's 1984-85 Showtime Lakers.
