Oladipo, Durant named Players of the Week
After leading their respective teams to unbeaten weeks with some spectacular individual performances, Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo and Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant have been named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played between Dec. 4-10.
Oladipo's week culminated in a memorable crescendo, a 47-point masterpiece in a come-from-behind overtime win over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. But, the Pacers' breakout star was on a dizzying run even before his career-best night, drilling a game-winning three against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday and then hanging 33 on the Cleveland Cavaliers two nights later as the Pacers snapped Cleveland's 13-game win streak.
All told, he averaged 30.8 points, seven rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals over the Pacers' 4-0 week, while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 47.5 percent from deep. His 3-point percentage came on an average of 10 attempts per game (he'd attempted that many triples in a game just twice in his career before this week), and he hit seven more threes than any other player.
Durant, meanwhile, picked up the slack with running mate Steph Curry sidelined, dominating at both ends of the floor and leading the Warriors to a 3-0 week by putting up 30 points, 9.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 2.7 blocks, and a steal.
Durant's signature performance for the week came Wednesday night against the Charlotte Hornets - the first game after Curry sprained his ankle - when he posted a 35-point triple-double. He followed that up with a 36-point, 10-rebound, seven-assist, five-block outing against the Detroit Pistons.
The Warriors' offense still took a predictable dip without Curry, but if there was any doubt about their ability to keep chugging along in his absence, Durant laid it to rest.
