A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the 2010 murder of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright. Billy Turner will be arraigned for first-degree murder, Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich told reporters Tuesday.
On July 19, 2010, the 34-year-old Wright called 911 from his cellphone outside his hometown of Memphis, Tenn. During the call, gunshots were heard. Wright's badly decomposed body was found days later.
Wright was selected seventh overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the vaunted 1996 NBA Draft - ahead of players such as Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Jermaine O'Neal. He suited up for five teams over 13 seasons, playing his final NBA contest a little over a year before his death.
