Report: Pelicans remain unwilling to trade Davis amid Celtics' interest
The New Orleans Pelicans consider Anthony Davis untouchable, but that won't stop other teams from dreaming.
Although New Orleans has no intention of moving the superstar, he remains highly coveted by several clubs - including the Boston Celtics, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Boston's rumored interest in Davis is not new, with the organization reportedly trying to acquire him last season, which prompted the talented big man to ask Pelicans general manager Dell Demps if there was truth to the hearsay.
"He told me that (Boston) was calling, but nothing was going to happen," Davis recalled.
"At the same time, though, you see how organizations treat players. Isaiah Thomas. DeMarcus (Cousins) told me that the (Sacramento Kings) told him that he wasn't going to get traded, but they traded him. Isaiah took his team to the Eastern Conference finals, and they traded him."
"It makes you wonder: Does this organization really have my back? I've been loyal to this organization. I love it here. I love this team. I think we're moving in the right direction. ... It's not about the money. It's not about having fans. The most important thing to me: winning. That's what I want to do. And I want to do it here."
The Celtics, who've been collecting young players and draft picks for years, have long been linked to many stars, including Davis and Cousins before the latter was dealt to New Orleans in February.
Davis, 24, is averaging 25.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, two blocks, and 1.1 steals over 25 games for the 15-15 Pelicans this season. He's locked up through 2020-21, with a player option in the final year.
