Report: Lakers' Caldwell-Pope playing while serving jail sentence
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who's been unable to travel with the Los Angeles Lakers for road games outside California, is reportedly unable to leave the state because he's serving a 25-day jail sentence, according to officials and court documents obtained by Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.
The Lakers guard has been able to play home games under a work-release program, but is reportedly required to wear a GPS monitor while outside the Seal Beach Police Department Detention Center and is subjected to breath tests upon his return.
Caldwell-Pope's legal troubles stem from a March incident, when, as a member of the Detroit Pistons, he was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence, but instead pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of allowing another person under the influence to operate his vehicle.
He was given 12-months probation for the infraction, but on Dec. 13 pleaded guilty to a violation when he failed to comply with a Michigan court's drug and alcohol screening order over the summer.
The 24-year-old will reportedly be sentenced to 93 days in Oakland County Jail if he violates any of the terms of his program.
