Isaiah Thomas is awfully close to his return.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will hold a practice Friday in Napa so Thomas can take part in his first full-court scrimmage since joining the team over the offseason.

"It'll be a practice, get some shots up, cover defensive rules and principles, and also scrimmage a little bit so Isaiah can get a feel and play 5-on-5," head coach Tyronn Lue said Wednesday, as quoted by ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

Thomas, 28, suffered the hip injury in March, and played through the pain before re-aggravating it during the playoffs. He was traded to Cleveland from the Boston Celtics in the Kyrie Irving blockbuster, but has yet to suit up for his new squad.

The All-Star point guard participated in his first team practice earlier this week after going through his first live scrimmage last week with the Cavaliers' G League affiliate.

The team was reportedly eyeing an early-January return for Thomas, but Lue suggested his status for Friday's game in Utah is to be determined. Whenever he returns, he'll be on a minutes restriction, per ESPN's sources.

Thomas averaged 28.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds for the Celtics last season. The Cavaliers boast the NBA's third-best offense, which should become even more potent with the addition of one of the league's most explosive scorers.
