Celtics won't play tribute video for Thomas at his request
Isaiah Thomas isn't looking to get sentimental in Boston. Not yet.
According to Joe Giza of CBS Boston, Thomas requested the Boston Celtics not play a tribute video for him when he returns to the Garden on Wednesday for the first time since being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics will comply with his request.
Thomas will play his first game of the season Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, but is planning on sitting out the contest against the Celtics the following night. This is likely due to a minutes restriction he's under as the team eases him into the rotation.
The 5-foot-9 point guard became a fan favorite during his tenure with the Celtics before being traded to the Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving. he averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists last season, and finished fifth in MVP voting.
The Cavaliers visit the Celtics again on Feb. 11.
