Pierce doesn't want Isaiah tribute video on his jersey retirement night
Paul Pierce apparently doesn't want Isaiah Thomas to steal his thunder on Feb. 11.
That's the night Pierce is slated to have his No. 34 jersey retired by the Boston Celtics. It's also the night that's scheduled for a tribute video to Thomas when he returns to TD Garden as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"I'm not saying Isaiah shouldn't get a tribute video," Pierce said Thursday on ESPN's "The Jump." "But on February 11, the night I get my jersey retired, I'm not sure I want to look up at the jumbotron and see Isaiah highlights."
Pierce added that he was in attendance for Kobe Bryant's jersey retirement last month and enjoyed how the Lakers paid tribute to the Black Mamba at different points during the contest.
"I enjoyed watching that throughout the game," Pierce said. "Hopefully the Boston Celtics will do that for me."
Thomas balked at the idea of the Celtics running a tribute video for him when the Cavs visited Boston on Wednesday. The reason was that he didn't play, and the diminutive guard is also hoping to have his family in attendance when it happens.
Many believe that Pierce loves a big room - as his wheelchair experience in the 2008 Finals possibly attests.
