The Los Angeles Lakers have released Andrew Bogut, the team announced Saturday.
Bogut averaged 1.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 24 appearances with the Lakers after signing a non-guaranteed deal worth the league minimum this summer.
The hope for Bogut will be to latch on with a contender. As for the Lakers, they had little use for a rapidly aging center who is well beyond his peak. Shedding the 33-year-old should create more minutes for the likes of Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr.
It didn't help matters when Bogut turned to the press last month about how the locker room was "frustrated" over the salary-cap situation going forward. The incident was likely one of many reasons why the Lakers called a team meeting last week.
