There is an expectation that Kendrick Perkins will sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers barring any further Cleveland trade activity before the 3 p.m. ET deadline, according to the New York Times' Marc Stein.

Perkins reportedly left the Cavs' G-League squad, the Canton Charge, on Tuesday. The Cavs could not have called him up as the veteran center wasn't on a two-way contract.

The 33-year-old has been angling for an NBA return, telling theScore's William Lou this month that he is "better than a majority of those backup fives that are in the (NBA) right now."

Slow-footed at the best of times, Perkins to the Cavs would mainly come as a locker room addition, reports Stein.
