Report: Clippers trade Griffin to Pistons for Bradley, Harris, Marjanovic, picks
NBA trade season came early this year.
In a shocking, out-of-nowhere move 10 days before the deadline, the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to send power forward Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, and a first- and second-round draft pick, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Detroit will also receive center Willie Reed in the deal, sources told Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
The Pistons, who have lost eight straight games and sit three games out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, are desperate to make the postseason.
The Clippers have overachieved in light of all the injuries they've dealt with this season, but they're a game out of a playoff spot in the more daunting West and are facing an uncertain offseason. They've reportedly made no progress on an extension with impending free agent DeAndre Jordan, and have a host of other rotation players who will (or will have the option to) hit the open market this summer, including Lou Williams, Austin Rivers, and Milos Teodosic.
Griffin is in the first year of a five-year max contract worth approximately $173 million. Bradley is set to become an unrestricted free agent while Harris and Marjanovic both expire after the 2018-19 season.
In 33 games with the Clippers this season, Griffin has averaged 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists, while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from 3-point range.
