Free-agent big man Greg Monroe will sign a one-year, $5-million contract with the Boston Celtics, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Monroe apparently chose Boston a day after reports had him leaning heavily toward his hometown New Orleans Pelicans. The Celtics can offer the veteran more money, however, by virtue of the Gordon Hayward injury exception.
Monroe agreed to a buyout with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has averaged 10.4 points and 7.4 rebounds on 60 percent shooting from the floor with both the Suns and Milwaukee Bucks this season. He was jettisoned from Milwaukee in the Eric Bledsoe deal.
