Report: Cavs offered own draft pick, 'unwanted' contracts for DeAndre
The Cleveland Cavaliers want DeAndre Jordan, but they want him on the cheap.
Trade talks with the Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly stalled, as Cleveland is only willing to part with their own first-round pick - not the Brooklyn Nets' - as well as "unwanted" contracts, a source told USA Today's Sam Amick and Jeff Zillgitt.
The "unwanted" contracts are in reference to those of Tristan Thompson (two years, $36 million remaining) and J.R. Smith ($14.7 million next season, $15.6-million team option in 2019-20).
Jordan is making $22.6 million this season, with a 2018-19 player option for $24.1 million.
Cleveland is reportedly willing to move the Nets pick, but only for a young talent and not a "short-term answer," of which Jordan would certainly qualify. He turns 30 years old this summer, and can opt out of his deal.
The trade deadline is Thursday, with Jordan also linked to the Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Jordan has spent his entire 10-year career with the Clippers, and was a huge component of the "Lob City" era that was recently put to rest with Blake Griffin's trade to the Detroit Pistons.
The near-7-foot Jordan is averaging 11.6 points, 14.9 rebounds (second in NBA), and a block through 46 appearances this season.
