Pistons' Reed suspended 6 games for domestic violence incident
Detroit Pistons center Willie Reed has been suspended for six games without pay for a domestic violence incident involving his wife, the NBA announced Tuesday.
Reed was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery for the incident back on Aug. 5 in Miami. The charges were ultimately dropped, at the behest of his wife, after he entered a pretrial diversion program.
The NBA, however, conducted an independent investigation into the incident, "reviewing all available materials and interviewing the parties involved," according to the league's official release.
"The NBA also consulted with a group of domestic violence experts who provide the league with guidance in such case," the statement continues. "The six-game suspension is based on all facts and circumstances of this matter and considers the conduct and its result, the outcome of the criminal matter, and Reed's voluntary participation in counseling as well as the court-mandated program, among other factors."
Reed, who spent most of the season with the Los Angeles Clippers, was dealt to Detroit as part of the Blake Griffin trade last week.
