Former assistant coach R.J. Adelman killed after being struck by vehicle
R.J. Adelman, a former NBA assistant coach and the son of ex-head coach Rick Adelman, was killed after being struck by a vehicle Feb. 2 in Houston, the Houston Police Department confirmed to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports.
Adelman was 44 years old.
A Houston police spokesperson said an 80-year-old woman was driving the van which struck Adelman while he attempted to cross the street. She was questioned but released without charges, and the accident remains under investigation.
Adelman had been an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets while his father served as head coach, and he was director of player personnel for the Minnesota Timberwolves while his father coached the team. He also worked as a scout for the Seattle Supersonics and Sacramento Kings.
