Report: Suns, Mavs interested in impending RFA Aaron Gordon
Orlando Magic power forward Aaron Gordon will become a restricted free agent this summer, and the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks are expected to be suitors for the versatile and athletic high-flyer, league sources told Sporting News' Sean Deveney.
The Suns have cap space available and could use a proven player like Gordon, who fits their timeline and would give them a second budding star next to Devin Booker. Meanwhile, the rebuilding Mavericks are reportedly looking for an up-and-coming talent to complement Harrison Barnes and Dennis Smith Jr. as Dirk Nowitzki's retirement - either this year or next - draws nearer.
Deveney also wrote the Indiana Pacers "intend to investigate restricted free agents, too," vaguely suggesting they could enter the Gordon sweepstakes. The Magic will have three days to match any offer to their RFA.
Gordon, 22, is averaging career highs across the board in his fourth campaign, including 18.4 points on a true shooting percentage of 54.7, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. He's earning $5.5 million this season in the final year of his rookie contract and is believed to be looking to fetch about $100 million over four years on his next one.
