Celtics decide not to bid for 2022 All-Star Game
The Boston Celtics have decided to not submit a bid to bring the 2022 NBA All-Star weekend to Beantown.
"(We) determined that we would not be able to put together a successful bid within the prescribed (timeline) of the NBA bid process," team president Rich Gotham told the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett.
Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said in December that the organization was looking into an application. Boston would have been a logical destination, given that the home of the legendary Celtics franchise hasn't hosted an NBA All-Star Game since 1964.
With Boston withdrawing, two small markets - Sacramento and Utah - have submitted bids to host either the 2022 or 2023 All-Star weekends. Charlotte will host next season's event, with Chicago on deck in 2020, and Indianapolis in 2021.
