Report: BIG3 fires Mason Jr. as commissioner over corruption allegations

The BIG3 has reportedly fired former NBA player Roger Mason Jr. as its commissioner due to corruption allegations, according to TMZ Sports.

Co-CEO Ice Cube will step in as his replacement for the time being.

A letter was recently sent out to players, coaches, and staff of the league informing them that Mason Jr. was being relieved of his duties "for cause under the terms of his employment agreement with the league."

Two Qatari investors, Ayman Sabi and Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, brought into the league by Mason Jr. allegedly cheated the BIG3 out of millions of dollars. Mason Jr. reportedly didn't cooperate during the investigation as a result of his relationship with the investors, even though the BIG3 expected him to side with the league because of the role it had given him.

The league reportedly found evidence of the investors showering certain employees with gifts and vacations, and since they believe Mason Jr. to be one of those employees, the decision was made to terminate his employment.

Mason Jr. is a former deputy executive director of the National Basketball Players Association. He spent 11 seasons in the Association with seven different franchises, three of which came with the Washington Wizards.
