Klay: 'I'm probably the best NBA player on a skateboard'
Klay Thompson: Two-time NBA champion ... and kick-flip enthusiast?
While the Golden State Warriors star has one of the more laid-back personas among the league's superstar class, that doesn't mean the 28-year-old isn't hyper-competitive. That ethos extends from the hardcourt to the halfpipe, and Thompson doesn't hesitate to stake his claim as the best skateboarder in the league today.
"I wouldn't say I'm nasty, but I'm probably the best NBA player on a skateboard," Thompson told SLAM Magazine's Tzvi Twersky. "I'm contractually obligated not to skate anymore, but I'll go out on a limb and say I've probably still got it."
In fact, because of the lockout in his rookie year, Thompson was still an avid participant at the local skate park right up until the start of the season.
"I hadn't signed a contract yet, and looking back it wasn't smart," Thompson said, "but it was a lot of fun."
At least one expert witness can attest to Thompson's skill.
"There are people that say they can skate, but Klay could really skate, dude," said pro skateboarder Ryan Sheckler. "He's smart, but he's got no fear. He just lets life happen. That's one of the reasons he's so fun to be around."
