Curry to return to action in new low-top UA model
Stephen Curry - who's expected to return from a seven-game absence Friday against the Atlanta Hawks - will do so in low-top sneakers, the Warriors superstar told ESPN's Chris Haynes.
"It is kind of ironic that I made the switch this season considering my ankle issues, but this shoe is stable and engineered to maximize my performance," Curry told Haynes. "I will still wear my ankle braces, but I have total comfort and security in my new shoe."
He and Under Armour released the new low-cut Curry 5 this month.
Curry has been kept out of action due to a right ankle sprain, the same ankle he had problems with earlier in his career. While one may assume that high-top sneakers may provide more ankle support, Curry said the low-top model allows for the added security of the ankle brace.
"It was like my Forrest Gump moment where I envisioned playing without my braces," he said to ESPN. "But I had to take a step back and say I can have the best of both worlds. I can have a dope shoe that's a low that still can fit a brace that makes sure that I'm good to go. This was years in the making."
