Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will not travel with the team on its two-game road trip through Atlanta and Charlotte after suffering a facial injury Wednesday against the New York Knicks.
The severity of the injury is expected to be released by Friday, sources told 94 WIP's Jon Johnson.
Sixers point guard Markelle Fultz ran into Embiid during a hand-off early in the second quarter, forcing the All-Star center from the game. It was initially diagnosed as a facial contusion.
Embiid is averaging 22.9 points and 11 rebounds in 63 contests. The fourth-place Sixers (44-30) are 3-8 when Embiid doesn't play. They're just 0.5 games out of the third seed in the East.
