The Golden State Warriors' move across the Bay Bridge to a new arena in San Francisco in 2019 has left some Oakland-based fans disappointed, but they can take comfort in knowing that there will be no name change.

"Let's make it official," Dubs president Rick Welts said on KNBR's "Murph & Mac" podcast Wednesday on keeping the Golden State moniker.

The team was called the San Francisco Warriors upon moving to the Bay Area from Philadelphia in 1962. In 1971, they moved full time to what was then known as the Oakland Coliseum (now Oracle Arena) and took on the "Golden State" nickname of California.

The new Chase Center is currently being constructed just south of the San Francisco Giants' AT&T Park.
