Mavericks' Barea done for the season with strained left oblique
That's all she wrote for J.J. Barea in 2017-18.
The Dallas Mavericks point guard will err on the side of caution and shut himself down for the remainder of the regular season after straining his left oblique during Wednesday's 105-100 loss to the Orlando Magic.
He didn't play the entire second half as a result of the injury.
"I don't want to finish the season with it messed up," Barea said afterward, according to Mavs.com's Dwain Price. "I had a good season. I don't want anything to happen."
Barea added that he's headed back to the Lone Star State on Thursday as the Mavericks finish out their three-game road trip.
He made 69 appearances this year for the 24-55 Mavericks, averaging 11.6 points and a team-high 6.3 assists on 43.9 percent shooting in 23.2 minutes per game.
Barea's under contract next season for just $3.7 million and will hit unrestricted free agency in 2019.
