Hal Greer dies at 81; 76ers to wear commemorative patch
Legendary Philadephia 76ers guard Hal Greer passed away Saturday at the age of 81 after a brief illness, the team confirmed.
Greer is considered one of the greatest Sixers of all time and led the team to the 1967 championship. The 6-foot-2 guard was drafted by the Syracuse Nationals and stuck with them when they relocated to Philadelphia, averaging 19.2 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 1,122 career games.
The 10-time All-Star remains the 76ers' all-time leader in points, field goals, games, and minutes played. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame following his retirement in 1973 and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996.
Greer was the first player to have his jersey number retired by the club and to be honored with a statue on 76ers Legends Walk at its training complex.
