Report: Budenholzer met with Suns Monday, Tuesday
Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer met with the Phoenix Suns on Monday and Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
It was reported last week that the rebuilding Hawks had granted Budenholzer permission to talk to the Suns, but Wojnarowski said Tuesday that some sense will emerge soon whether there is a path to Budenholzer becoming Phoenix's next head coach.
Budenholzer has coached the Hawks since 2013, compiling a 213-197 record. A Gregg Popovich disciple, he coached Atlanta to a surprise first-place Eastern Conference finish in 2014-15 before free-agency departures commenced a gutting of the team.
The Suns could be an attractive option for an established coach given some of their young components and future cap room. Interim bench boss Jay Triano will be given an opportunity to interview for the permanent position as well.
