Casey: Until anyone on Raptors tells me anything different, 'I'm still here'
Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey said that he has met with team president Masai Ujiri, but hasn't received an update about his future with the franchise.
"Nobody's told me any different and until they do I'm still here," Casey told the press at a team press conference Wednesday. "Nobody's changed my key lock."
The update comes in the wake of Tuesday's reports that said the Raptors were "strongly leaning" toward firing Casey after this spring's disappointing playoff ouster.
Casey has amassed a 320-238 regular-season record since assuming the role with the Raptors in 2011, leading to playoff appearances in each of the past five seasons. While the team's regular-season success has been haughty, the Raptors have never appeared in the NBA Finals.
After the team was swept in the Eastern Conference Semifinals by the Cleveland Cavaliers last spring, Ujiri insisted on a "culture reset." Casey responded to the command by retooling his offense, developing a world-class bench unit, and pushing the Raptors to a franchise-record 59 wins in the regular season. The team, however, flamed out to the Cavs in a 4-0 Eastern Conference Semifinals sweep.
Casey has one more season remaining on the three-year extension he signed after the 2015-16 campaign.
