Royce White suspended 11 games by Canadian league after sideline argument
Former NBA first-round pick Royce White, who's become one of the top players in the fledgling National Basketball League of Canada, was suspended 11 games Friday for a combination of technical fouls and "conduct detrimental to the league."
White was recorded getting into a heated argument with NBLC deputy commissioner Audley Stephenson during a playoff game Thursday in Newfoundland. White later tweeted that "'Screaming' is so sensationalized," then debated several fans on the social media platform.
The suspension effectively ends White's season with his London Lightning squad in the playoffs.
Some St. John's Edge fans said White used homophobic slurs during a game last week, which he denied.
White was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 16th pick in the 2012 draft, but never played a game for them after an impasse over White's mental health issues, which included a fear of flying. He later played three NBA games with the Sacramento Kings. White has since been outspoken about his experiences.
