Grizzlies officially name Bickerstaff head coach
J.B. Bickerstaff has officially been named head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, the team announced Tuesday. He will be formally introduced at a press conference on Wednesday.
It was reported last week that Bickerstaff and the team had agreed to terms on a three-year contract.
Bickerstaff took the interim reins of the Grizzlies after David Fizdale's firing in November, overseeing the squad to a last-place finish in the Southwest Division. Memphis could be entering a rebuilding phase should the team gauge the offseason trade market for veterans Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. With the second-worst record in the NBA this season, the Grizzlies also have a 19.9 percent chance of landing the top pick in the draft lottery.
It's the 39-year-old Bickerstaff's first full-time head coaching gig. He also coached the Houston Rockets in an interim capacity in 2015-16.
