Clippers give Doc Rivers extension
The Los Angeles Clippers and head coach Doc Rivers have agreed to a contract extension, the club announced Wednesday.
Terms were not disclosed, but Rivers had one year left on his existing deal. The news should put to bed any questions about the veteran bench boss possibly moving on elsewhere.
Rivers was hired by the Clippers as both team president and head coach in 2013, and the club has logged the NBA's fifth-best record since then. However, the Clippers missed the playoffs this season for the first time since 2011, and for the first time in Rivers' coaching career since 2007.
The 56-year-old relinquished the executive title in favor of Lawrence Frank last year after a series of less-than-effective signings and an absence of draft picks.
The Clippers have also dismantled their Lob City core over the past year, trading Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, while bringing in others like Lou Williams and Danilo Gallinari. Center DeAndre Jordan is expected to opt out of his contract this summer and test unrestricted free agency.
