Report: Hawks focused on 76ers assistant Lloyd Pierce for head coach
Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Lloyd Pierce has become the Atlanta Hawks' top target for their vacant head coaching position and could garner an offer as early as Friday, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Pierce has been a member of Brett Brown's Sixers staff since 2014, with previous professional coaching stops with the Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Prior to coaching, Pierce had a four-year collegiate run at Santa Clara - the first two seasons spent playing in a backcourt featuring Steve Nash - before a brief international playing career. Pierce returned to Santa Clara as an assistant coach from 2002-07.
The Hawks and former head coach Mike Budenholzer agreed to part ways in April after five seasons. The team finished 24-58 last season, and are tied with the Dallas Mavericks for the third-best odds of securing the No. 1 pick in June's NBA draft.
