The Toronto Raptors will reportedly consider three internal candidates to succeed the deposed Dwane Casey as head coach.
Toronto will interview Jerry Stackhouse, the head coach of Raptors 905, Toronto's G League affiliate, later this week, according to Blake Murphy of Raptors Republic.
The 905 has made back-to-back runs to the G League finals in Stackhouse's two years at the helm. The teams consistently graded out as elite on defense, while Stackhouse established a reputation for player development. His stock seemingly skyrocketed of late, as he's also interviewed with New York, Charlotte, and Orlando.
The Raptors will also interview assistant coaches Nick Nurse and Rex Kalamian on Tuesday, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.
Nurse was a longtime assistant in the development league, before being hired as an assistant with the Raptors in 2013 after winning a title with the Rio Grande Vipers. He's widely credited as a brilliant offensive tactician, and has interviewed for numerous head coaching jobs in recent seasons.
Kalamian was a career journeyman who worked with the Clippers, Nuggets, Timberwolves, Kings, and Thunder before he joined the Raptors in 2015. He's known for player development and has developed strong relationships with his stars.
Former Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer is the lone outside candidate to be linked to the Raptors' opening so far. Toronto reportedly faces strong competition from Milwaukee for his services.
