Ethan Hawke says Knicks revoked free tickets for criticism
Ethan Hawke was a big New York Knicks fan until owner James Dolan took away his tickets.
Appearing on the latest episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast," the actor said he used to receive free tickets to Knicks games. But he lost that privilege after publicly criticizing the team for its handling of former head coach Mike D'Antoni, who resigned in 2012.
"I’ve been a Knicks fan for a long time, but I got kicked out of the Garden. They won't give me tickets anymore," Hawke said (starts around the 1:28 mark). "I'm being serious. I'm being dead serious. I really was vocal on some talk shows like this that I thought it was a huge mistake to let Mike go and I would have bet on Mike before I bet on Melo."
"... But I have been left team-less. The point is that I'm not wanted and I don't go where I'm not wanted. It’s hard to be a fan for a place that doesn't like you."
Simmons then interjected: "Well, one person doesn't like you."
"Well, one person who owns (the Knicks)," Hawke replied. "... I called up one time and they said, 'That'll be $7,800.' I was like 'Oh, um, oh, why is this the first time you guys are charging me?' They said, 'You should have thought of that before you went on the Jimmy Fallon Show.'"
Actor Michael Rapaport also said he stopped receiving free tickets to Knicks games after expressing support for Charles Oakley following his altercation with Dolan last season.
