Tatum becomes 6th rookie to reach 300 points in a postseason
Only five rookies in NBA history had totaled 300-plus points in a single playoff run prior to Wednesday night.
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum became the sixth with his 12 points in the first half of Game 5 against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tatum joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Alvan Adams, Elgin Baylor, George Mikan, and Jack Sikma as the only first-year players to accomplish the feat.
At just 20 years old, Tatum also passed Magic Johnson (293 points) for the second-most total points by a player aged 20 or younger in one postseason. He trails only San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker (352).
Tatum averaged 18 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 46.3 percent shooting across 16 playoff outings ahead of Game 5.
