Report: Tom Izzo won't be hired as Magic's head coach
Michigan State's Tom Izzo won't fill the Orlando Magic's head coach vacancy, according to Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal.
Izzo was never seriously considered for the position, as he didn't have a standing offer from Orlando and wasn't granted an interview, Brendan F. Quinn of The Athletic reports.
It was reported earlier Thursday that Izzo was of interest to the Magic, not long after former Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford was reported to have scheduled an interview.
Izzo is coming off a 30-5 season at the helm of the Spartans that included a Big Ten regular-season title but ended with a disappointing second-round loss to Syracuse in the NCAA tournament.
The school was in the spotlight amid the fallout of the Larry Nassar sexual assault scandal and an ESPN "Outside the Lines" investigation.
Over his 23 seasons as the face of basketball in East Lansing, Izzo owns a 574-225 career record, including seven trips to the Final Four and a national title in the 1999-2000 season.
