Report: Divac went to son's graduation over scouting Doncic in EuroLeague final
The Sacramento Kings hold the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft, but they did not scout Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic at the EuroLeague finals.
The initial plan was for general manager Vlade Divac to travel to Belgrade, where Doncic led Real Madrid to the EuroLeague championship in addition to being named 2017-18 MVP, but Divac chose instead to attend his son's graduation, according to Jonathon Givony of ESPN.
That being said, the Kings front office had already grew skeptical of Doncic in the months leading up to the draft, and that was before they moved up from No. 7 to No. 2 at the NBA lottery.
Although Doncic received glowing praise in recent months, the 6-foot-8 forward is not a lock as a top-three pick. Doncic's performance slipped in recent months, and he could choose to stay in Europe instead of coming over next season. Givony reports that the Atlanta Hawks - who hold the No. 3 pick - are eyeing one of Marvin Bagley III or Jaren Jackson Jr.
