Report: Suns sign Ariza for 1-year, $15M
Fresh off a Western Conference finals appearance with the ascendant Houston Rockets, there were two schools of thought on Trevor Ariza's free agency: Would the veteran forward re-sign with the Rockets, or perhaps take a pay-cut to improve his title odds by joining the Golden State Warriors?
Then there was plan C.
The Phoenix Suns have agreed to terms with Ariza on a one-year, $15-million contract, sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
The 33-year-old joins what's expected to be one of the youngest rosters in the league once the dust settles on the offseason. The current nucleus of the team consists of 21-year-old Devin Booker, 21-year-old Josh Jackson, and recent No. 1 overall draft pick Deandre Ayton, who's just 19 years old.
Ariza averaged 12.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game over his four seasons with the Rockets. After his one-season layover in Phoenix, Ariza will be free to re-enter what's widely expected to be a free-spending 2019 offseason.
