Report: Rondo agrees to 1-year, $9M deal with Lakers
Rajon Rondo has agreed to a one-year, $9-million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
Rondo will join the crop of big personalities to sign with the Lakers following the commitment of LeBron James, along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lance Stephenson, and JaVale McGee.
Although Lonzo Ball is seemingly entrenched as the starting point guard, Rondo will have a chance to win the job as the addition of James means the team has shifted into win-now mode, a source told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
The 12-year vet is coming off a superb season with the New Orleans Pelicans, in which he started started 63 of 65 games in the regular season, averaging 8.3 points and 8.8 assists per game, while shooting 46.8 percent from the field.
Known for his ability to reach an All-Star level come postseason time, "Playoff Rondo" didn't disappoint during the Pellies run to the second round, averaging a near triple-double of 10.3 points, 12.2 assists, and 7.6 rebounds across 9 games. He also provided an uptick in the shooting department, making 8 of 19 three pointers, good for 42.1 percent.
