Report: Cousins 'very likely' returning to Pelicans on short-term deal

DeMarcus Cousins' suitors will be few and far between as the market may be dry for the All-Star after suffering a season ending achilles injury in late January.

Considering the unknown of how Cousins will recover, he is reportedly "very likely" to return to the New Orleans Pelicans on a two-year deal in hopes of increasing his value in the short-term, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Dallas Mavericks were a potential option for Cousins, but they reportedly have their sights set on DeAndre Jordan after the center declined his player option with the L.A. Clippers on Friday, according to The New York Times' Marc Stein.

Few teams have the cap room to splurge this summer and the risks of signing an injured center have effectively diminished his value. This makes a reunion with Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday the logical move to see if their star rotation can be enough to compete in the Western Conference.

Cousins was dealt by the Sacramento Kings to the Pelicans in February of 2017 and averaged 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 48 games last season.
