Report: Rondo expects to compete for starting spot with Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have either created healthy competition or a needless headache at the point guard position.
Rajon Rondo expected to be given a chance to compete for a spot in the starting lineup when he signed with the Lakers, a source told Sam Amick of USA Today.
That could lead to problems for Lonzo Ball, who not only plays the same position as Rondo, but he also shares similar strengths and weaknesses. Both guards struggle to shoot from the outside, and function best as passers looking for open shooters. However, any Lakers point guard will struggle to some degree since LeBron James is extremely ball dominant.
Amick reports that Ball welcomes the competition, although chances are it won't be resolved amicably. LaVar Ball never shies away from controversy, and he'll inevitably comment on his vision of the Lakers' ideal starting lineup, which will create trouble for Lakers head coach Luke Walton.
Ball averaged 10.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.7 steals while shooting 36 percent from the field last season. Rondo posted 8.3 points, four rebounds, and 8.2 assists while playing eight fewer minutes per game.
