Report: Looney agrees to re-sign with Warriors
The Golden State Warriors need big men, so they're locking up one of the few they have for at least another season.
Kevon Looney has reached an agreement to re-sign with the reigning NBA champions on a one-year minimum deal, league sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes.
His cap hit comes out to $1.51 million for Golden State, and with three years of service, Looney will earn $1.56 million on his new deal.
The Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, and Philadelphia 76ers also reportedly had interest in signing him, according to the Mercury News' Mark Medina.
The 22-year-old started five of Golden State's 21 playoff games in 2017-18 en route to a third title in four years. He averaged 4.1 points and 4.2 rebounds on 54.2 percent shooting from the field during the team's run to capture the Larry O'Brien trophy.
With DeMarcus Cousins not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury, and JaVale McGee now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Looney could see an expanded role during the early stages of the 2018-19 campaign.
