Report: Howard's 2-year deal with Wizards to include player option

Dwight Howard is heading to the nation's capital with a potential second year added to his previously reported deal.

With his buyout from the Brooklyn Nets finalized, the 32-year-old center is free to sign a two-year, $11-million contract with the Washington Wizards, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Nets' trade to acquire Howard from the Charlotte Hornets was made official Friday, with Charlotte receiving Timofey Mozgov, a pair of second-round draft picks, and cash considerations.

This move now gives Washington 14 guaranteed contracts, while boosting its tax bill from $11.5 million to $18.3 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Howard was reportedly going to get the taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.3 million for one year, but that didn't include the second year with a player option.

The eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year ranked third in the Association last season in rebounding (12.5 per game) while adding 16.6 points and 1.6 blocks in 30.4 minutes for the 36-win Hornets.
