Nike VP: LeBron to Lakers presents opportunity for 'groundbreaking' ideas
LeBron James' decision to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers could yield some exciting new shoe designs.
Nike vice president of innovation Tinker Hatfield told TMZ Sports that James' move to L.A. has generated a lot of buzz within the company. He also touched on what fans may see from James' signature shoe line down the road.
"I think we're all excited about the fact that LeBron is really still interested in winning more championships. He's coming to L.A. to do that. We're all excited to participate," Hatfield said. "If we can help him do that by, first of all, designing a product that helps him play at his highest level, that's job one. Job two, of course, is how can we leverage his personality moving to L.A. and kind of build a nice story around that. And then, of course, from that, style can be unique and interesting and it can be what I would call - or what you just mentioned - a groundbreaking kind of product.
"We're always looking for opportunities to not just design products, but to leverage storytelling into meaningful designs that people can connect with," he added.
James had the best-selling signature shoes among NBA players last year. His next release will be the Nike LeBron 16.
