Tobias Harris is betting on himself to secure a substantial payday in the summer of 2019.

The 26-year-old forward has turned down an $80-million extension with the Los Angeles Clippers following amicable discussions, sources told NBA.com's David Aldridge.

Harris will play out the final year of his contract, where he's owed $14.8 million, and hit unrestricted free agency next summer.

He'd then be eligible for a max contract with the Clippers, where he could make $188 million over five years, with all other teams only able to offer a four-year, $145.5-million deal.

Harris began last season with the Detroit Pistons, but was shipped to Los Angeles in late January as part of a multi-player blockbuster trade for All-Star Blake Griffin. He put up 19.3 points per game during his 32 appearances with the Clippers, averaging a career-high 18.6 points per game throughout the entire season, while adding 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.9 steals.
