Wizards the latest team Howard hopes to retire with
Dwight Howard hasn't yet suited up for the Washington Wizards since signing a two-year deal this offseason, but he already envisions himself closing out his playing days in the nation's capital.
"For the rest of my career, and I plan to be here until I retire. It's about this team. It's about winning," Howard said during his introductory press conference on Monday, according to NBC Sports' Chase Hughes.
The eight-time All-Star has been down this road before, as Howard previously said he wanted to finish his career in Orlando - where he played from 2004-12 - and later repeated that sentiment upon joining the Atlanta Hawks in free agency and then after a trade to the Charlotte Hornets.
The Wizards are Howard's fourth team in as many years. His three-year stint with the Houston Rockets came to an end in 2015-16 after he declined his player option, which led him to the Hawks on a three-season deal for $70 million. Howard then moved to Charlotte in a trade last June, where he spent only one season before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets earlier this month.
The Nets immediately waived Howard, and he soon signed with Washington as a free agent.
