Report: Hawks, Carter agree to 1-year contract

The Atlanta Hawks are bringing in the oldest active player in the Association to serve as a mentor for their youthful locker room.

Vince Carter, 41, has agreed to a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum of $2.4 million with the Hawks, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.

To put Carter's age compared to the rest of his new teammates in perspective, the eight-time All-Star was selected fifth overall in the 1998 draft on June 24 of that year. Trae Young, who was picked fifth in this summer's draft, was born roughly three months later on Sept. 19, 1998.

Atlanta marks Carter's third team in as many years, having spent the 2017-18 campaign with the Sacramento Kings, and then the prior three years in Memphis with the Grizzlies. He's also suited up for the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, and, most notably, the Toronto Raptors during his career.

Once he takes the floor, Carter will tie the NBA record for most seasons played at 21. The record is currently held by Robert Parish, Kevin Garnett, and Kevin Willis, and will also be matched by Dirk Nowitzki.

Carter averaged 5.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists on 40.3 percent shooting in 17.7 minutes per game for the 27-win Kings.
