Melo: Thunder 'wasn't a good fit'

As he awaits his release from the Atlanta Hawks and expected deal with the Houston Rockets, Carmelo Anthony has had some time to reflect on his season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"It wasn't a good fit," Anthony told ESPN's Jemele Hill on Wednesday. "I think last year - and I haven't talked about this before - everything was just so rushed, going to the team for media day and the day before training camp. Them guys already had something in place, and then I come along in the 25th hour like, oh s---, Melo just come on and join us."

Anthony, who was officially dealt to the Hawks Wednesday, was acquired by Oklahoma City from the New York Knicks last Sept. 25 - just in time for the Thunder's media day.

"That's why it was so inconsistent," Anthony said. "At times, I had to figure it out on my own rather than somebody over there or people over there helping me."

Questions regarding how the veteran scorer would fit in next to Russell Westbrook and Paul George abounded, and the ultimate answer wasn't ideal. Anthony appeared at times to reject his tertiary role and was benched during key moments of the playoffs.

Now with his anticipated signing with the Rockets, similar questions are being asked. While he's close friends with Chris Paul, some doubts exist about adding another isolation scorer to the Rockets' attack. Free agency also cost Houston their best perimeter defenders in Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute, something Anthony isn't expected to ameliorate.

Anthony wouldn't completely confirm the widespread Houston reports Wednesday, but touched on it.

"I'll let the people do what they do," he said. "I just sit back and when the time comes, and the call gets made, we'll make that move."
