Milwaukee attorney: Bucks' Brown shares blame for tasing incident
Milwaukee's city attorney is asserting that Bucks player Sterling Brown deserves blame for his role during a January incident involving the Milwaukee Police Department, despite apologies to Brown from both city hall and the city's chief of police.
"The injuries and damages sustained by the plaintiff, if any, were caused in whole or in part by their own acts or omissions," city attorney Grant Langley said according to a court document, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Gina Barton.
Brown is suing the Milwaukee Police Department for unlawful arrest and excessive force after he was tazed while being surrounded by at least five officers during an arrest for a parking violation.
Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett, who had previously apologized to Brown for the incident, was caught off guard by the tenor of the city attorney's response.
"It is my hope that this can be resolved in a constructive way for Mr. Brown and for the community," said Barrett. "I think it's counterproductive for anybody to turn up the heat with rhetoric like this. I'm trying to bring respect throughout the entire community, and I'm going to continue to do that."
